Asian Games

The Asian Games is the oldest and most prestigious event on the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) calendar, dating back to the inaugural edition in 1951. It is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. 

16th Asian Games - 2010 

The 16th edition of the Asian Games took place in Guangzhou from 12-27 November 2010. A total of 9,704 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees competed in 476 events from 42 sports and disciplines (28 Olympic sports and 14 non-Olympic sports). The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the 2010 Asian Games was Abdulla Amir from Maldives Basketball Association and the Deputy Chef De Mission was Ahmed Shaqeef from Athletics Association of Maldives. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Imran Mohamed from Football Association of Maldives. 

17th Asian Games - 2014 

The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad, was the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It took place in Incheon, South Korea from September 19 through October 4th, featuring 439 events in 36 sports. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the 2014 Asian Games was Maldives Olympic Committee’s Education and Culture Commission member Ahmed Anees. The two appointed Deputy Chef De Missions were Aminath Nima from Carrom Association of Maldives and Ali Waheed from Maldives Pool Billiard Association.  

18th Asian Games - 2018 

The 18th Asian Games, also known as Jakarta–Palembang 2018, was a multi-sport event held from August 18 to September 2, 2018, in Indonesia. The Asian Games are one of the world’s largest sporting events, held every four years since 1954. More than 16,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries participated in the 2018 Games. For the first time, the Asian Games were co-hosted in two cities; the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, and Palembang, the capital of the South Sumatera province.  Athletes competed at 42 sports across 484 events during the 2018 Asian Games. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the 2018 Asian Games was Ibrahim Nahid from Maldives Basket Association and the Deputy Chef De Mission was Dr. Mariyam Waseema. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Aishath Sajina from Swimming Association of Maldives.
