L. Kunahandhoo Community Celebrates Olympic Day 2026

The Maldives Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the L. Kunahandhoo Council and the local organising committee, successfully celebrated Olympic Day 2026 in L. Kunahandhoo on 27 June 2026, bringing together the island community for a day dedicated to sport, physical activity and the Olympic values.

Held as part of the nationwide Olympic Day celebrations under this year's global campaign, "Let's Move – You Can Do This," the programme commenced with an Olympic Day Run, where participants of all ages walked and ran together in a vibrant display of community spirit and active living.

Following the run, the celebrations continued with an engaging Sports Festival featuring a variety of recreational and sporting activities designed for children, youth and adults. The festival provided an inclusive environment where participants could enjoy friendly competition, teamwork and fun while experiencing the joy of movement.

The event reflected the core Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect, encouraging individuals and families to embrace physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. By bringing together people from across the community, the celebration reinforced the message that sport has the power to unite, inspire and promote wellbeing for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Olympic Day is celebrated annually around the world to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Movement and to encourage greater participation in sport and physical activity. Through the nationwide Olympic Day programme, the Maldives Olympic Committee continues to work alongside local councils, schools and communities to promote active lifestyles and strengthen the Olympic Movement across the Maldives.

L. Kunahandhoo was among the many islands that joined this year's nationwide celebrations, demonstrating the community's enthusiasm for sport and its commitment to building a healthier and more active Maldives.
