Asian Beach Games 2026: Maldives Beach Handball Team Faces Jordan in Second Match
At the Asian Beach Games 2026 currently underway in Sanya, China, the Maldives men’s beach handball team played their second match against Jordan, putting up a competitive performance.
The Games officially commenced today in Sanya, with beach handball among the opening events. The Maldives is competing in Group B of the men’s beach handball competition, alongside Oman, Pakistan, Jordan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Qatar, and Mongolia.
Following their opening match victory over Bangladesh via penalty shootout (2–1), the Maldives faced Jordan in their second match. Although the Maldives lost the match 2–0, the team delivered a commendable performance.
In the first set, the match remained closely contested during the early stages, with the Maldives maintaining level scores for a significant period, including a 6–6 tie. However, Jordan gained momentum in the latter stages and secured the set 14–6.
In the second set, the Maldives showed improved performance. The team took an early 6–0 lead and later maintained an 8–6 advantage. Despite a strong and determined effort, the Maldives narrowly lost the set 16–13.
In the match, experienced player Fathuhulla Adam scored 11 goals, while Mohamed Shamnooz Naeem contributed 6 goals.
The Maldives is scheduled to play their third group stage match on Thursday against Mongolia. The match will take place at 09:00 hrs Maldives time.
