Maldives’ Rafaa Completes Comeback Victory in Women’s Singles
The Maldives recorded a victory in the women’s table tennis singles at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, as Aishath Rafaa Nazim recovered from 2–1 down to defeat Bangladesh’s Nawrin Mahi 4–2.
Rafaa conceded the opening game 11–9 before responding under pressure to secure the second 12–10. Mahi regained the advantage by taking the third game 11–7, leaving Rafaa needing another comeback.
The Maldivian player then shifted the momentum decisively, winning the fourth and fifth games 11–6 and 11–5. She maintained her composure in the sixth to close out the contest 11–9 and complete the victory.
Fathimath Dheema Ali was also in women’s singles action at Sky Hall Toyota, where she faced North Korea’s Kim Kum-yong. The North Korean player secured the match 4–0.
The Maldives table tennis team will compete tomorrow in one women’s doubles fixture and two men’s singles matches.
