Maldives’ Maaidh Sets New National Record in 10m Air Rifle
The Maldives registered a new national record in shooting at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, as Ahmed Maaidh Mohamed produced a score of 614.5 points in the men’s 10-metre air rifle event.
The national mark changed twice during the competition at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery. Umar Mohamed Nasheed initially raised the record to 610.2 points before Maaidh delivered an even stronger performance later in the event, adding a further 4.3 points to establish the new benchmark.
The previous record had stood at 605.5 points and was held by Ibrahim Shifan, who set the mark at the 2025 Asian Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. Maaidh’s performance therefore represented a nine-point improvement on the record in place before the Asian Games.
Shifan was also among the three Maldivian shooters competing in the event, recording 597.3 points alongside Maaidh and Umar.
A total of 47 athletes contested the event, with China’s Sheng Lihao leading the standings with 635.4 points.
The Maldives shooting team will return to competition in the 10-metre air rifle mixed team event.
