Maldivian Coach Ilyas Ibrahim Graduates from Prestigious ICECP Programme
Maldivian basketball coach Ilyas Ibrahim has successfully graduated from the internationally recognized International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP) 2025–2026, marking a significant milestone for the development of basketball coaching in the Maldives.
The ICECP programme, delivered through a collaboration between the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, the University of Delaware, and Olympic Solidarity, is widely regarded as one of the leading high-performance coaching education initiatives globally. It brings together elite coaches from around the world, equipping them with advanced knowledge in athlete development, sport science, leadership, and long-term performance planning.
As part of the programme’s requirements, Ilyas Ibrahim developed and presented a comprehensive legacy project titled “Junior Elite Athlete Development Program for Maldives Basketball.” The project focuses on establishing a structured and sustainable pathway for young basketball players in the Maldives, aiming to identify talent early, provide systematic training, and create progression opportunities towards elite-level competition.
This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening the national basketball framework, aligning with international best practices in long-term athlete development and capacity building within the sport.
The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) extendedS its congratulations to Ilyas Ibrahim on this notable achievement, highlighting the importance of such international educational programmes in enhancing the technical expertise of Maldivian coaches and advancing the overall standard of sport in the country.
