Yasin Advances to Third Round with Commanding Heat Victory
Maldivian surfer Yasin Ahmed Nashid delivered a decisive performance in the second round of the men’s shortboard competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, winning his heat by a substantial margin to secure progression to the third round.
Competing in Heat 4 at Tahara Long Beach in Aichi, Yasin registered a total score of 8.13 points. He finished comfortably ahead of Afghanistan’s Afridun Amoo, who recorded 2.14 points, giving the young Maldivian first place in the heat.
Kayan Abdulla Arif also represented the Maldives in the second round of the men’s shortboard competition. Competing in Heat 6, Kayan earned 5.67 points, while Thailand’s Nattakron Sai-Eaw topped the heat with 11.20 points.
In the women’s shortboard competition, Aminath Thaanis Shiran scored 1.30 points in Heat 6. Malaysia’s Mona Rashida Abdul Rashid won the heat with 2.60 points. Mariyam Raahil Naseem, meanwhile, recorded 1.20 points in Heat 2, which was led by South Korea’s Nala Lee with a score of 8.20.
With the conclusion of the second-round heats, Yasin will carry the Maldives forward into the third round of the men’s shortboard competition. The third-round heats are scheduled to take place on 28 September.
