MOC Secretary General Participates in Final Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Torch Relay
Maldives Olympic Committee Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed represented the Maldives in the Pre-Opening Ceremony Torch Relay for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, held at Hisaya-odori Park in central Nagoya.
Bringing together representatives of participating National Olympic Committees, Games partners and public relations runners, the event constituted the final stage of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 torch relay programme. It concluded with a special ceremony marking the departure of the Games flame on the final leg of its journey to the Opening Ceremony.
The Pre-Opening Ceremony Torch Relay followed a series of activities organised to extend the reach of the Games across the host region, including a School Relay involving participating schools throughout Aichi Prefecture. Through these initiatives, the torch programme connected local communities with the Games before culminating in Nagoya on the day of the official opening.
Following the relay at Hisaya-odori Park, the flame proceeded to the Opening Ceremony at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, where the 20th Asian Games were officially opened on 19 September 2026. The Games bring together athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees to compete across 43 sports and will continue until 4 October 2026.
