Maldives’ Rihaan Lowers National Record in 400m Individual Medley
The Maldives registered another national record at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, as Mohamed Rihaan Shihaam delivered a personal-best performance in the men’s 400-metre individual medley.
Competing at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Rihaan completed the race in 5 minutes 06.92 seconds and finished second in his heat. His performance lowered the national record by 2.76 seconds, improving on the 5:09.68 mark he established at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026.
Two other Maldivian swimmers were also in action during the day. Meral Ain Latheef recorded a time of 1:04.37 in the women’s 100-metre freestyle, while Malaika Linda Imran completed the women’s 200-metre backstroke in 2:55.31.
The Maldives will return to the pool tomorrow for the women’s 100-metre backstroke, women’s 100-metre breaststroke and the 4x100-metre mixed medley relay.
